Want to join the Photo Composition Challenge?

Here's how it will work--

Each Monday, for five weeks, I'll email you a different essential composition technique to focus on while taking photos that week. I'll include a short write-up introducing the technique, maybe give some famous examples, and hopefully provide a little inspiration to go make some great pictures.

It doesn't matter if you're taking your Hasselblad on an Arctic safari, or just taking an iPhone shot of your coffee in the morning. You should be able to find easy ways to put these things to use and hopefully sharpen your skills set along the way!

Q&A

What if I don't have time for this right now?

Don't sweat it! This should be low stress and easy. The goal here is to just pay a little extra attention to what's in your photos and how it all fits together. If you get just one photo during the week that uses the technique effectively that's a win. If you don't take a single photo that week but notice when the technique is being used in photos you see during the week, that's also a win. If you just have fun and feel a little inspired to pick up your camera more, that's a win!

How are you qualified to do this?

I'm not! I'm not a photography instructor, and I'm not a very good photographer, BUT that's why I'm doing this. This came about because I've been wanting to work on my own composition when shooting— All too often, I see something cool, I fire off a quick snap (or five), and then when I review later, I'm really underwhelmed by what I got. So, I am putting this together to help me improve and hopefully have some fun with photo friends.

How much does this cost?

Nothing but your sweet, sweet, time and attention. That said, if you want to help offset the website hosting fees, I always appreciate you buying me a coffee!

What techniques will be covering?

Week 1: Rule of Thirds
Week 2: Leading + Diagonal Lines
Week 3: Frame within a frame
Week 4: Contrast + Subject Isolation
Week 5: Golden Spiral + Curves

Do I have to share my photos?

Only if you'd like to! We'll use #TheCompoChallenge across the various social medias if you'd like to either join in the fun or just follow along for inspiration.
